Frontline Plus for dogs FAQs

Want to know more about the No. 1 flea and tick treatment and the UK’s most trusted brand?* Read our FAQs to find out how Frontline Plus can help treat and prevent fleas and ticks on your dog.

How long does Frontline take to work?

Frontline starts working once the product has spread over the whole body surface, which can take up to 24 hours after application. Thereafter, fleas are killed within 24 hours and ticks killed within 48 hours.

How does Frontline work?

Once applied, Frontline is stored in the sebaceous glands in your dog’s skin and spreads over the whole body surface with their natural oils. Fleas and ticks are killed through contact with your dog’s skin and coat so they do not need to bite to be killed. This topical defence kills parasites on contact, without the need for them to bite to be killed. Frontline kills fleas by affecting their nervous system, making them hyperactive before dying. These dying fleas often rise to the top of the pet’s coat and bounce, so if you feel like you may be seeing fleas more after treatment, it could actually be a sign that the product is working.

How long does Frontline last?

For optimal protection from fleas and ticks with Frontline, you should treat your pet every 4 weeks.

Which is best Frontline or Frontline Plus?

Frontline and Frontline Plus both kill fleas and ticks on your pet, however, Frontline Plus is an advanced formula that also stops flea eggs from hatching and infesting your home, protecting both your pet and your home from fleas.

How often should you flea a dog with Frontline?

Frontline is effective for 4 weeks. For optimal protection from fleas and ticks with Frontline, you should therefore apply Frontline to your dog every 4 weeks.
